Welcome signs are all the rage right now! They add a bit of color, pizzazz and personality to your front porch. And don't forget just how welcoming they look! In this post I will be sharing how to make your very own porch welcome sign in just MINUTES! Not "crafty"? No worries! This is a quick and easy project that ANYONE can do -- and do BEAUTIFULLY!
Create your Own Welcome Sign
This welcome sign was created on a natural stained board, using Bright White and Bumblebee Chalkology Paste, in combination with the Welcome Sign Post transfer. We used the flower in place of the "O" to make it extra spring-y! Some burlap ribbon finished off the top of the board with a splash of color and texture.
The supplies you will need include:
10" x 54" wood board
Paint or Stain
Paint Brush
Clear top coat (can be applied by brush or spray)
Chalkology paste in Bright White and Bumblebee
Once you have all your supplies gathered together, you are all ready to get started! In no time at all you will have completed your very own porch sign! Are you ready? Alright, let's get started!
Paint or Stain your board in the color of your choice, and then let dry.
Cut apart your transfers, following the thin guide lines.
Fuzz each transfer piece by laying it sticky-side down onto your fuzzing cloth a couple of times prior to placing your transfer onto the board.
Lay out all your transfers edge to edge before starting to apply the paste, or measure a 2 inch space between each letter.
Stir your chalkology paste, and make sure it is the right consistency. Think yogurt or sour cream for your ideal consistency. If it is too thick, add a spritz of water, and stir until it reaches the proper consistency. If too runny, let it sit uncovered for a couple minutes, stir again, and repeat until it reaches the right consistency.
Use your squeegee to apply your chalkology paste to the transfer. This is not a "painting" motion, but much closer to squeegee-ing a window, or scraping cake batter out of a bowl.
Scrape excess paste back into the paste jar.
Quickly remove transfer before the chalkology paste is dry.
Rinse the transfer under water, and let dry sticky side up.
Repeat step 9 until all letters are completed.
Once all letters are thoroughly dried, apply your clear coat to protect your new porch sign from the elements.
If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can take it one step further and create your sign with interchangeable piece for each and ever season! Think you are up for the challenge?
Here are the additional supplies that you may need:
Chalkology paste in Black Velvet, Candy Apple, and Shimmer Gold.
5/8" Screw Hook
Ribbon
1/2" Plywood
Jig saw
Drill
Now that you have your additional supplies gathered up, let's get to it! Here is where to start!
Use the jig saw to cut out coordinating shapes from the plywood match all of the various add-on designs.
Drill a hole into the top of each shape.
Paint or stain the pieces to match your board.
Fuzz each transfer piece and then chalk the design on the coordinating cut-out piece.
When spacing out your letters, leave 11" between the "c" and the "m" to make space for the various "o" shapes, but follow all other instructions listed above for creating your sign.
Add the screw hook to your board, making sure to center it completely.
Tie ribbon through the holes in each cut-out piece.
Hang this seasons' design from the screw hook to complete the look
